This »Berceuse« is at the heart of the First Vision for Organ op. 17. The piece, in its corresponding unity of a simple melody in a high register and complex, interwoven harmonies, acts as an idea that appears out of nowhere. The composer has provided alternative performance options for this short piece, thus scoring it for either violin, flute, or high soprano accompanied by either piano or organ.
